Lockheed T33A ‘5547’ becomes the second aircraft to cross the threshold of the new 2,400m² Aircraft Display HallFirst aircraft moved into Newark Air Museum's New Aircraft Display Hall

The first aircraft have been moved into Newark Air Museum’s new Aircraft Display Hall on their Southfield Site in eastern Nottinghamshire.

Following the successful ‘on-time’ completion of the of the project by principle contractor Turnstyle Engineering, the museum’s Jet Provost T3A XM383 and Lockheed T33A ‘5547’ became the first aircraft to be moved into the new building on Wednesday 5 May 2004.

Jet Provost XM383 looks almost lost in the corner of the new 2,400m² Aircraft Display HallAlthough completed with little ceremony this landmark event marks the first in a series of intricate aircraft movements around the museum site. These aircraft moves will take place in the coming months and eventually culminate in more than twelve aircraft being displayed inside the new Aircraft Display Hall.

The construction of the South Field Site Aircraft Display Hall has been made possible thanks to a grant of £453,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund and a major fund raising effort by the museum volunteers and visitors. Careful project management from the Project Team has enabled the building to be completed on time and within budget, and the museum trustees are grateful to everyone involved,

It is planned to hold an Official opening for the new Aircraft Display Hall later in the year.
